summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

Broward County Traffic Engineering (BCTE) is responsible for street signs, regulatory traffic signs, and traffic signals within the City.  When we requested BCTE   post a city street as No Thru Truck (NTT)  they informed us that based on legal opinion from FL Attorney General’s Office, state and local governments do not have statutory authority to prohibit cut-through traffic or specific types of vehicles from using public streets unless operational problems/deficiencies have been documented to support such a restriction (e.g. a weight restriction for the roadway).  When a roadway has such a restriction, NTT posting is accomplished via a resolution passed by City Commission which confirms the particular restriction.

This proposed resolution documents that NW 6th Ave has operational deficiencies (narrow roadway width due to traffic calming round-abouts south of NW 15th Street and no suitable outlet with dead end north of NW 15th Street).  Therefore this roadway cannot adequately support truck traffic and should be posted as NTT.  Approving this resolution prohibits most truck traffic eliminating damage to the round-abouts that has occurred in the past.
