summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

The Broward County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) has been coordinating an effort to establish a Quiet Zone along the South Florida Rail Corridor (SFRC) rail road tracks within Broward County. Pompano Beach is participating in this request along with the City of Deerfield Beach as the lead applicant. A Quiet Zone is a section of rail line where train horns are not routinely sounded when a train is approaching roadway-intresection crossings; however, horns may be used in emergency situations. Administrative Memo #17-041 (attached) provides additional details regarding this Broward County Quiet Zone effort. Each of the participating municipalities must approve a resolution providing support to the application. Staff recommends the City Commission adopt this resolution showing support for the creation of a Quiet Zone along the SFRC. Should the City adopt the resolution, the MPO and the City of Deerfield Beach will then submit the Quiet Zone application.
