Summary Explanation/Background:
Approval of this resolution will renew a Service Agreement between the City and New Horizon Community Development Corporation, Inc. to operate a Summer Youth Employment Program. New Horizon Community Development Corporation, Inc. is increasing the number of participants in 2017 from ninety (90) to a hundred (100) youths, as compared to eighty (80) from the previous year. The program is scheduled to run from June 13, 2017 to August 3, 2017. This agreement is approximately $17,509.00 more than the 2016 calendar year and that is due to the increase in the number of participants. The requested total amount for this agreement is $152,000.00.

This vendor, as requested in 2016 by the City Commission, was selected through a competitive process via RFP E-21-16. The ranking of proposers was approved at the April 26, 2016 Committsion meeting. RFP E-21-16 allows for an optional renewal for up to three (3) additional one-year periods.

This initiative is part of the City of Pompano Beach's Strategic Plan, Great Places Item 8.1.1. The goal of the initiative is to work with Summer Youth Employment Program to provide employment to a minimum of thirty (30) economically disadvantaged students in the Pompano Beach city limits during the summer of 2017. This initiative will allow the youth to obtain meaningful work experience, develop social skills and the sense of responsibility.
