Summary Explanation/Background:

In accordance with Section § 160.04  POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location. The Public Art Master Plan and Public Art Annual Plan FY 2017 states that the City will complete a Collier City Artist in Residency Program with a budget of $30,000.00 in 2017. This is a Community Engagement/ Art in Community program.

On December 1, 2016, the Call to Artists for this project was posted. The deadline for applications was January 25, 2017. On February 9, 2017, the Subcommittee shortlisted two artists with one alternate. March 2, 2017, the Subcommittee held interviews with the two shortlisted artists and selected Ya Levy-La’ford as the final artist. Ms. Levy-La’ford will work with the Collier City community to complete ten (10) Community Engagement Activities and three (3) Artists Lectures in Collier City. These activities and lectures will be used to create a work(s) of art that will be installed upon the conclusion of the residency. The completed artwork(s) must be valued at a minimum of $10,000.00.
