Summary Explanation/Background:
In accordance with Section ? 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the power to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location. Resolution #2018-52 and #2017-36 approved the FY 2018 and FY 2017 Annual Plans (respectively), both which included a Phase 2 Utility Wrap project. The Public Art Committee is preparing to install forty-three (43) vinyl wraps on traffic signal boxes throughout the City as part of the second phase of the Traffic Signal Box Wrap Project.
At the March 16, 2017 PAC Meeting, the Committee selected forty-three (43) proposed locations for phase 2. These locations are either highly trafficked, major arterials, areas of high pedestrian activity, visibility and/or are other areas of focus identified in the Public Art Master Plan. These locations provide artwork in every District. A map showing both the Phase I and Phase II locations is included within the backup.
A Call to Artists was posted on July 18, 2017 with a deadline of September 15, 2017 for artists to submit artwork for the second phase of the Utility Wrap Project. 2,053 applications were submitted. The Utility Wrap Subcommittee met on October 17, 2017 and selected forty-three (43) artworks from twenty-nine (29) artists to recommend to the PAC. On October 19, 2017, the PAC recommended approval of the forty-three (43) artworks completed by twenty-nine (29) artists.
