Summary Explanation/Background:

The City of Pompano Beach is located in an area that is vulnerable to natural and man-made disasters.  The State of Florida has stipulated that a Local Mitigation Strategy (LMS) is the first step in the process of making a community better prepared to manage disasters. The Broward County Local Mitigation Work Group, is responsible for preparing this document in coordination with representatives of Broward County’s municipalities. The Broward County Enhanced Local Mitigation Strategy (ELMS) Plan was approved by the State, and is pending adoption of all the participating jurisdictions.  Approval and adoption of this Plan is necessary in order to maintain eligibility for hazard mitigation project grant funding.
