summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

Staff is seeking approval of a first amendment to an existing agreement with the Florida Department of Transportation (“FDOT”) to allow the agency to manage design and construction services related to a Transport Investment Generating Economic Recovery (“TIGER”) grant. The City of Pompano Beach (“CITY”) was a participating member in the 2015 TIGER application that resulted in an $11 million grant to various municipalities whereas the CITY stands to receive $3.5 million for improvements on MLK Boulevard from I-95 to Powerline Road (a.k.a., Education Corridor - Phase III). To enable efficient services and to achieve economies of scale, FDOT is proposing to retain one (1) consultant and (1) contractor to oversee the entire $11 million project, which affects the CITY as well as five (5) other municipalities. Staff recommends approval of the proposed amendment.
