Summary Explanation/Background:
Staff is seeking City Commission approval of a Memorandum of Agreement (MMOA) with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The MMOA is needed as the City will be required to maintain the new traffic signal mast arms that are planned for the intersection of A1A and NE 2nd Street (see Location Map). The City already maintains mast arms at numerous other locations and this intersection will be added to the City’s responsibility for future maintenance. The traffic signal project is part of improvements on Pier Street West and a continuation of the garage and streetscape work on Pier Street (east of A1A). The traffic signal will enhance pedestrian connectivity from the Fishing Pier to the Water Taxi station on the Intracoastal Waterway. Plans to construct the signal will be brought before the City Commission for approval at a later date.
