Summary Explanation/Background:
The purpose of the Fire Assessment Program is to provide a dedicated source of funding for fire operations; the fees paid to the City under this program cannot be used for any other purpose. The costs, covered by the fees, are apportioned by service demand (calls) that are placed on fire operations by residential, commercial, industrial/warehouse, and institutional properties.
The Preliminary Assessment Rate Resolution is required to be passed by the Commission as part of the annual process of adopting a Fire Assessment Fee for Fiscal Year 2019.
For FY 2019, the City is proposing an increase in rates. Please refer to the attached Rate Summary document for current and proposed rates. The proposed Fire Assessment Rates are anticipated to assess approximately $20.4 million in revenues for the Fire Department and fire capital projects (90%). Remaining costs are covered by other fire fees and property taxes.
Final Public Hearing to Adopt Annual Rate Resolution has been scheduled for Friday, September 14th, 2018, at 5:15 p.m. at the City Commission Chambers, located at 100 W. Atlantic Blvd., Pompano Beach, FL 33060.
