summary

Summary Explanation/Background:

To obtain approval for the Mayor to execute a letter approving the distribution of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant program funds in the amount of $195,797 to provide crisis intervention and trauma services to the broader Broward County community, as a result of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas tragedy in Parkland. In order to utilize the funds, support is needed by 51 percent of local units of government.

The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant-Countywide (JAG-C) is a program administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs and in Florida by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE).  Program funds can be used to support a broad range of activities to prevent and control crime and to improve the criminal justice system throughout the County.

FDLE has approved the use of underutilized funds from Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2016-
2017 to be re-purposed back into our community.
