Summary Explanation/Background:
Sheehan Cadillac located at 5101 N. Federal Highway is proposing to underground the overhead utilities (electric, cable and phone) adjacent to their property along Federal Highway and NE 51st Street (approx. 1,200 feet).
In addition to improving aesthetics in the City, the advantage of undergrounding overhead utilities includes greater resiliency in normal and severe weather conditions such as lightning and wind, and it reduces power interruptions to our customers, especially due to tree and other vegetation issues.
Sheehan Cadillac has requested City to subsidize costs at 40% of total project costs not to exceed $140,000. Commission recently approved a similar reimbursement agreement in October 2018 for the 14th Street Townhomes Association.
Sheehan Cadillac would be responsible for coordinating the design, securing of easements, permits and construction, along with advancing all the funds up front. Following completion of project, City would reimburse Sheehan Cadillac 40% of total project costs, not to exceed $140,000, based on actual values to be substantiated by City.
