summary
Summary Explanation/Background:
Brightline applied for and was awarded a CRISI grant (Consolidated Rail Infrastructure and Safety Improvements). The CRISI program is administered by the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) through the U.S. Department of Transportation and focuses on rail safety improvements.

In total, 48 crossings in the tri-county region (Broward, Dade and Palm Beach) will receive additional safety upgrades. The scope of work is different for each crossing and includes one or a combination of the following: exit gates, flexible edge-of-roadway delineators and striping, center-line delineators or active signs. All improvements are occurring on public crossings and are expected to be constructed over a 6-to- 8-month timeframe.

The grant award is $2.3 million grant, while the total cost of the project is $5.63 million. Brightline is contributing $500,000 toward the program, and asking cities, who's crossings will be enhanced, to provide a 20% match to the cost of improvements that will take place in their respective jurisdiction.

A total of seven railroad crossing will receive safety improvements. The total cost of the improvements are $1,833,884. Therefore, Brightline is asking the City of Pompano Beach to contribute a 20 percent local match, or $366,777.
