This is an appointment to the Housing Authority of which one (1) member must be either a tenant or subsidy recipient of the Housing Authority. Ms. Willie Ruth Heath, the incumbent whose term has expired, expressed her desire to be reappointed. She is the only applicant that meets the tenant/ subsidy recipient requirement.
Pursuant to Chapter 421.05, “Public Housing” of the Florida Statutes, …at least one commissioner of the housing authority shall be a resident who is current in rent in a housing project or a person of low or very low income who resides within the housing authority’s jurisdiction and is receiving rent subsidy through a program administered by the authority or public housing agency that has jurisdiction for the same locality served by the housing authority, which commissioner shall be appointed at the time a vacancy exists.
In addition, the Mayor, with the approval of the governing body, shall appoint this tenant-commissioner to serve for a term of 4 years.
