Summary Explanation/Background:
Approval of this Resolution will allow Tyler FuQua Creations, Inc. to complete the Public Art project entitled, “Underwater Sculpture Round 2.” This is project is approved under FY2020 and FY2021 Public Art Annual Plans, Resolutions #2020-93 and #2021-62.
The Public Art Committee (PAC) is recommending Tyler FuQua Creations, Inc. to fabricate and install a sculpture entitled, “Mechan H2O,” that will be placed on land at the beach for a period of one (1) year and then sunk and attached to the Lady Luck in Shipwreck Park. A Call to Artists was posted on January 5, 2021, with a deadline of February 23, 2021. One hundred seven (107) artists submitted applications. A PAC Subcommittee, which also included Rob Wyre from the Shipwreck Park Foundation, Inc. and Jeff Torode of South Florida Diving, reviewed the applications and recommended Tyler FuQua Creations, Inc. as the selected artist. The Tyler FuQua Creations, Inc. application and design have also been reviewed and approved by Broward County’s Natural Resources Division. At its May 20, 2021 meeting, the PAC unanimously motioned to recommend Tyler FuQua Creations, Inc. for this project. The design represents a 6.5 foot robot scuba diver. Additional details about the sculpture’s design are attached. The Agreement with Tyler FuQua Creations, Inc. for this project will be for a period of two (2) years at a total cost of $35,000.00.
Approval of this agreement is recommended to allow Tyler FuQua Creations, Inc. to complete this project.
In accordance with Section § 160.04 POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE, the Public Art Committee has the authority to make recommendations to the City Commission on art, artist selection and artwork location.
